Rotaract Club of Guelph
The Rotaract Club of Guelph is a university based Rotaract Club sponsored by The Rotary Club of Guelph and the Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium. We also work very closely with both the Rotary Club of Guelph South and the Rotary Club of Guelph Wellington. Our club partners with various organizations in Guelph, and holds its own events both on and off campus with the intent of making a difference in our community. Our club was established in 2008 and is still growing. Our weekly meetings are Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6:30pm. Our meetings are in MACK 235, except for the last Tuesday of each month when they are in The Keg Lounge in Brass Taps.
History of Rotaract
Rotaract is a Rotary International-sponsored service club for young men and women between the ages of 18 and 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they focus on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. Most Rotaract activities take place at the club level. Rotaract is a membership club (which is non-exclusive to guests and those interested in learning about the club). We hold formal meetings, usually every two weeks, which feature speakers, special outings, social activities, discussions or visits to other clubs. Club members get together on designated days for service project work, social events, or professional/leadership development workshops. Rotaract stands for "Rotary in action". The first club was chartered in 1968 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Now, Rotaract has grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organization of over 8,700 clubs spread around the world and 200,000 + members. Our fiscal year starts July 1st of every year.
A founding principle of Rotary was to meet periodically to enjoy camaraderie and enlarge one’s circle of business and professional acquaintances. As the oldest service club in the world, Rotary club members represent a cross-section of the community’s owners, executives, managers, political leaders, and professionals – people who make decisions and influence policy. As it approached the 21st century, Rotary worked to meet society’s changing needs, expanding its service efforts to address such pressing issues as environmental degradation, illiteracy, world hunger, and children at risk. Visit www.rotary.org for more information.
Today there are over 7,100 clubs in 163 countries and geographic areas with an estimated membership of 163,000 young men and women worldwide.
