The Fermentation Facility
Overview
The Fermentation Facility is one of 7 highly specialized laboratories in the University of Guelph’s Advanced Analysis Centre. The facility provides service to all academic communities and is also available to government and industry at a reasonable cost.
The fermentation facility was developed for two reasons. Firstly to provide users with the capabilities to precisely control the growth conditions of microbes during biomass production to maximize the yield of subcellular fractions or macromolecules, and secondly to enable users to monitor the growth of microbes when exposed to specific, user defined conditions. We can therefore assist in the development of strategies to optimize cell growth for a range of downstream processes. In addition, the facility has the capability to separate biomass from the fermentation broth and provide further downstream processing options such as cell breakage and fractionation of macromolecular solutions.
