Research
Within the College of Biological Science we have outstanding individuals who are involved in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaborations. Our faculty have been rewarded for their cutting edge research with numerous awards including recent Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) awards in 2004, with an overall value of $29 million for research in “Applied Evolution” and “Membrane and Surfaces in Diseased and Natural Environments”. The College of Biological Science is also the home to the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario, a $12.5M initiative which will provide unique data on natural ecosystems, and is developing the application of genomics to taxonomy in a program on the “Bar-coding of Life”. In addition the College of Biological Science receives more than $17 M in external recurrent grants. There are also exceptional facilities available to support research including, genomics and proteomics, controlled environment facilities, field stations, bioimaging, and animal care facilities. The College is home to and contributes to numerous research centres including several National Centres of Excellence.
