Going Green in the Garden: Sustainable Strategies for Ontario Home Landscapes Talk

The Arboretum, Waterloo-Wellington Wildflower Society, Healthy Landscapes Division from the City of Guelph and the Guelph and Wellington County Master Gardeners are pleased to present this talk on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.  The presenter is Melanie Sifton, NPD, MPS.  She is Director of Humber Arboretum & Centre for Urban Ecology in Toronto, and plant studies instructor in the Landscape Technology program at Humber College.
How to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly in the garden can be a significant and sometimes confusing challenge for professional and home gardeners alike.  While there are still many open questions and research ongoing on how best to design and maintain green landscapes, general guidelines and principles have been recently published and are being tested worldwide.  What are some of the basic concepts behind sustainable landscaping, and how can gardeners make use of the latest information to create easy, beautiful and green landscapes?  These and other questions will be addressed in this presentation.

What to See Currently at The Arboretum

Pileated Woodpeckers (our largest woodpecker) are making themselves heard in The Arboretum.  This sign of spring will hopefully result in a nest of raucous young!

For recent sightings please check out our website.  You can view past months as well as current months.  There are some great photos on these pages.
