Photographer Karl Egressy caught this Blue-headed Vireo eating berries in the Gosling Wildlife Gardens today. Way to go, Karl! This obviously shows that the gardens are providing migrants with much needed fuel for their journeys south. Almost 100% of a Blue-headed Vireo's summer diet is insects, but during migration and the winter season, fruit makes up more than 25% of their food intake.

It was a beautiful weekend in The Arboretum this Thanksgiving holiday and there was lots of stuff to see. Jon Brierley and other observers saw the following species (and check out the cool shots Jon got of the kinglets and Yellow-rumped Warbler):

Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Golden-crowned Kinglets ... pretty much everywhere!
Yellow-rumped Warblers - field adjacent to the Trillium Trail south of the entrance road and east of Wild Goose Woods.
Downy Woodpecker and White-throated Sparrows on the edge of Wild Goose Woods.
Brown Creeper - Trillium Trail by the intersection of the service road and College Avenue (by the rotary grove).
Broad-winged Hawk flying over the Gosling Wildlife Gardens.
American Goldfinch in the Gosling Wildlife Gardens.
Chipping Sparrows in the Gosling Wildlife Gardens.
Lots of Cedar Waxwings all over the place.
White-tailed Deer in Victoria Woods
Blue-headed Vireo on the Trillium Trail.
Dark-Eyed Juncos and Northern Flicker around about the R.J. Hilton Centre.
Tons of Robins.
Tons of White-throated Sparrows and possibly a Fox Sparrow on the McCrae Trail where it enters the woods by the exit road.
