University of Guelph Recruitment CD-ROMs |
To gain a distinct advantage in recruiting undergraduate students. Thats what the Ontario Agricultural College saw Web-CD doing for its campaign to get the best high school graduates registered in its degree and diploma programs. Celebrating its 125th anniversary in 1999 and on the brink of the new millennium, OAC looked to @access to provide a state of the art recruitment tool that would make the college stand out. The result: two multimedia CD-ROMs that integrate full motion MPEG1 video and Web pages in a non-linear mode for every secondary school guidance office in the province of Ontario. Accessed via any multimedia computer in the high school at any time, the CD brings current college students and staff - ambassadors for OAC - face to face with prospective students - "one-on-one". The advantage to the high school student is s/he can click to presentations that are of primary interest, drilling down to details or bypassing other information. No more "canned" 20 minute recruitment videos with everything including the kitchen sink; this promotional Web-CD cuts to the chase... with a click of the mouse.
'The Woody Plants Collection' course & videos on CD-ROM |
To provide the first distance learning course in Canada on CD-ROM using text, graphics, and full motion videotape. That was the plan for the University of Guelph/Independent Study course, Woody Plants: Their Identification and Use. The course features video clips of nearly 250 native and naturalized deciduous trees and shrubs, conifers, broadleaf evergreens, vines and groundcovers of eastern North America used in the landscaping and nursery industries. Being video-based is what makes this course unique: no other educational institution in North America has integrated video and computer technologies though some have produced CD-ROMs with still images of plant material that usually illustrate only the plants strongest qualities in a single shot. With video, Woody Plants... come to life in a breeze. Currently available in videotape, or video CD accompanied by a print manual, this distributed learning course can be taken for personal interest, towards a certificate of achievement or the Ontario Diploma in Horticulture, an educational program designed for part time adult learners. The entire course via CD-ROM is a must for the professional development of horticulturists, landscape designers and architects with a multimedia computer.
CropLife Canada's 'Certified Crop Science Consultant' multimedia modules |

When CropLife Canada (CLC) wanted to revise its
professional development/training program for 500 technical and marketing people across
the country, @access said, "Stop surfing and start learning". Converting
a text-based course manual into a contemporary, distributed learning product, featuring
multimedia applications such as full motion MPEG1 video, Web connectivity and
self-administered interactive drills/quizzes - all on CD-ROM - was our strategy. And
its a success! That strategy has led to realizing the industrys objective: to
successfully launch a new media-based, nationwide standard designed specifically for
people who advise growers, distributors and the public on plant protection products in
2002/2003. Now, instead of an 800+ page, b&w manual, CLC has full colour digital
materials on two CDs, suitable for use with a standard multimedia computer... and
everybodys learning - and probably still surfing too.

| Web-Style Comfort |
- Create training/learning programs with Web-surfing ease, using a Web-style interface. Insert the CD-ROM, click on the "start" page, and begin. If your computer is connected to the Internet, a Web-style CD-ROM provides seemless integration with the World Wide Web for current information updates, reference hyperlinks, and connectivity to your own Web site.
