News in Brief
This Week in 1964
Forty years ago, the
News Bulletin
of the newly created University of Guelph reported that:
The Committee on Ceremonials had met to review heraldic colours at universities across Ontario and Quebec and had unanimously decided to recommend to Senate that U of G's official colours be red, black and gold.
Botany professor Blair MacNeill had written a letter to the editor discussing U of G's evolving image and promoting the idea of Guelph as a centre for the study of life sciences. He proposed a slogan: “Guelph — The Life Science University.”
Minister of Education Bill Davis was speaking at the invitation of the University Women's Club.
