Arboretum

Naturalist Chris Earley leads a session on sketching nature for beginners June 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Sketchbooks will be provided. Cost is $20, and the deadline to register is June 13. On July 11, Earley presents a workshop on dragonflies and damselflies from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $50. Registration and payment are due June 27. Call Ext. 52358.

“Fern Identification and Propagation” is the focus of botanist Allan Anderson July 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $50. Registration and payment are required by June 21.

Art Centre

Opening this month at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre are the exhibitions “Air Time” by Annie Dunning June 16 and “Landfill” by Nicolé Vogelzang June 23. Also opening June 23 is an exhibit of recent acquisitions. The five-month-long Shakespeare exhibit wraps up June 10.

The art centre's volunteers host the 15th annual Gardenscapes, a self-guided tour of 11 local gardens, June 24 from noon to 5:30 p.m., rain or shine. Tickets are $12. For more information, call 519-837-0010 or visit www.msac.ca.

The Department of Athletics hosts the first Gryphon Golf Classic, a golf tournament in honour of former U of G president Bill Winegard, June 25 at the Cutten Club. Thesis Defences

The final examination of Anna Allen, an M.Sc. candidate in the Department of Chemistry, is June 21 at 10:00 a.m. in MacNaughton 222. The thesis is "Metal- Catalyzed Ring Formation in Organic Synthesis: A Cyclodmerization and Cycloaddition Reactions." The adviser is Prof. William Tam.

The final examination of PhD candidate Blaine Legaree, Chemistry, is June 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the science complex 1504. The thesis is "Exploring the Biochemistry and Biology of pseudomonas aeruginosa Penicillin-Binding Protein 2". The adviser is Prof. Anthony Clarke.
