About Us
The Department of Business (DoB) was established in 2006 as one of four academic units within the College of Management and Economics (CME). We offer a B.Comm. major in Accounting, a B.Comm. major in Human Resources Management, a MA in Leadership, and an undergraduate leadership certificate plus courses in:
- accounting and financial management
- international business
- strategy
- entrepreneurship
- corporate social responsibility, and
- sustainability.
Our faculty members also contribute to CME's MBA, PhD in Management and programs at the University of Guelph-Humber.
PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS
We offer all required courses for the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification exams. We are currently expanding our courses to fulfill the requirements for the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation.
SMALL BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Our students develop business plans for new product ideas in small class settings, often in collaboration with students in other degree programs, such as agribusiness, food science and family studies. Guelph students excel in university business competitions such as the Ignition 1K competition in Waterloo.
INNOVATIVE, COMMITTED FACULTY
The majority of our faculty members have industry experience in areas such as banking, consulting, agribusiness, restaurants and high-tech. Many also have PhDs from schools such as Schulich (York), Ivey (Western), Rottman (University of Toronto), Sprott (Carleton), De Groote (McMaster) and Harvard. We are a dynamic community of scholars and learners with a vision and a mission that support the needs of business in the 21st century.
