Campus Café

Campus Café is a way to bring interesting speakers to the University of Guelph to speak to our students on important environmental topics and issues.  We hope that the speakers will excite our students with ideas, innovations, and visions that will inspire them to become the environmental leaders of tomorrow.

frequently asked questions

What is Campus Café?

Campus Café is a lunchtime seminar series directed towards University of Guelph students. Each café will focus on important environmental issues and topics that concern all of us and it will be presented by noted leaders in the field.

Who else will be there?

Audiences consist of undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff and anyone from the Campus Community who is interested in the environment and environmental issues. No scientific knowledge is assumed by the speakers, so anyone and everyone can participate.

What happens at a Campus Café?

Campus café will begin at 12:00 noon with an introduction to our speaker. The speaker will make a presentation for 40-45 minutes, which will be followed by 10-15 minutes for questions. Anyone can ask a question, and no question is "a stupid question" rather it is more likely to be invariably not stupid and often rather insightful.

Where and When?

Campus Café is held over lunch (12:00 – 1:00) usually on the third Thursday of each month (October through March) in the Atrium of the Science Complex (see dates)

What subjects will be discussed?

Campus Café will cover a wide range of issues relating to the environment. This year we will focus on topics ranging from the deep ocean, our weather, to outer space.  We welcome your suggestions for speakers in future years.

Do I need to buy a ticket?

No! Please bring your lunch to the Atrium before 12:00 noon, find a seat, and join us for a great talk. We will have some cookies for dessert!

Does Campus Café make a profit?

Campus Café is sponsored by the Faculty of Environmental Sciences (FES) at the University of Guelph. This activity is part of FES's mandate to raise awareness of the environment in the community. Other public activities include the Café Scientifique, and the Hammond Lectures.
