CIBC Health & Science Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarships for 2012
CIBC Health & Science Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarship
Through support from Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, in support of the BetterPlanet Project, with matching funding from the Ontario Trust for Student Support, the College of Biological Science is offering opportunities for undergraduate student research in biological aspects of cancer through 5 Undergraduate Summer Research Scholarships. Each award will be $5000, to be used over a 13 week period between May 1st and August 31st, 2012.
Eligibility criteria: Students must be registered in a CBS major* with demonstrated financial need; have completed a minimum of 7.5 credits of their program; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 75%; and have identified a CBS faculty sponsor to supervise a research activity in the areas of biological aspects of cancer during summer 2012. A 300 word statement of the student’s research interests and goals is required with the application. Preference will be given to research opportunities that provide an independent inquiry element.
Allocation criteria: Scholarships will be allocated equitably among year of program and majors. Faculty can serve as a sponsor for only one scholarship recipient per summer. There are opportunities to extend the research term up to 16 weeks and supplement the total value through departmental support. The scholarship is awarded in the winter 2012 term and is conditional upon the student completing the summer research term.
Application procedure: Interested students that meet the credit and grade requirements should apply to Student Financial Services for a needs assessment and seek the sponsorship of a faculty member in CBS. A completed Application Form (available in Word and PDF format) should be submitted with an unofficial transcript downloaded from WebAdvisor (short listed candidates may be required to provide an official transcript) to the Office of the Associate Dean, Academic, CBS (Science Complex 1478, sherrya@uoguelph.ca).
Application deadline has been extended to February 13, 2012.
Potential faculty sponsors can be located by viewing faculty web profiles on the Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, Integrative Biology or Molecular and Cellular Biology department websites.
