Admissions

A Science student

Bachelor of Science, Biological Science Majors
Subject requirements for 11/12 admission

  • English
  • Advanced Functions (Calculus is required for the Biochemistry major)
  • 2 credits from Grade 12 Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • 2 additional credits

Ontario Curriculum Requirements

  • ENG4U
  • MHF4U (MCV4U for the Biochemistry major)
  • 2 credits from SBI4U, SCH4U, SPH4U
  • 2 additional 4U or 4M credits

All three of Grade 12 Biology, Chemistry and Physics are strongly recommended for all majors in biological sciences.

Applicants who lack one or more of the Grade 12 (4U) Biology, Chemistry or Physics credits will take a replacement credit in semester one. This course will be applied toward the B.Sc. degree requirements as an elective.

Advanced Placement (AP):

Applicants who have completed Advanced Placement Examinations with a minimum grade of 4 will be eligible to receive university credit to a maximum of 2.0 credits, subject to the discretion of the appropriate college. Please arrange for an official school report to be sent directly to Admission Services.

International Baccalaureate (IB):

The University of Guelph will consider IB courses as long as the applicant meets the admissions standards set out by the university. Please see the Admissions website for more information and specific grade requirements.

Application Forms

If you are applying to Guelph you should use the print versions (hard copies), or the on-line application forms both available from the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). All print versions of the application forms are sent to the Ontario Universities' Application Centre not the University of Guelph. Some forms can also be downloaded using links provided below.

OUAC 101

Are you a currently enrolled Ontario secondary school student?

Use the OUAC 101 Form (available from your school guidance office).

All currently enrolled Ontario Secondary School students must apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre. The Secondary School On-Line Application (SSOLA) will also be available in most schools.

OUAC 105

Not currently enrolled in a secondary school program?

Use the OUAC 105 form if you are not currently enrolled in a secondary school program. This would include, but would not be limited to, the following categories of applicants:

  • all Ontario candidates (except those who are currently enrolled full-time in an Ontario Secondary School day program)
  • adult and mature students registered in night school, correspondence programs and special adult day school programs
  • all candidates from other Canadian provinces or territories or international students (including those who are attending secondary or post-secondary institutions)
  • university and college transfer students
