Home.Web Migration Status
Migration Complete
The migration of home.web was completed on February 23, 2010
Migration Announcement
The personal web site server, home.web.uoguelph.ca, is being migrated to new hardware on Saturday, February 23th, 2010. This will affect all users who have content in their "public_html" directory which is found on the web at www.uoguelph.ca/~userID. The migration will move the service to newer, more powerful hardware. After this migration, personal websites will still be found at www.uoguelph.ca/~userID and users will still upload there content on home.web.uoguelph.ca
CCS anticipates this transition to be seamless for most users. Websites which only use HTML/CSS should not be affected at all. Web content which uses perl or cgi scripts are at risk of breaking as a result of changes in the operating system of the service, from HP-UX to RedHat, and changes to the version of Apache and perl, along with other Unix applications and utilities.
CCS will be notifying all home.web clients by Mass Email of this upcoming migration and providing direction for them on how to test their website on the new server. This information is provided below in the Testing Your Website section.
This page will have the latest information and updates about the Home.Web migration. If you would like more information, please contact the CCS Help Centre.
Testing Your Website
CCS is providing early access to the new server so clients may test their websites. If a user's website is located at http://www.uoguelph.ca/~jsmith, they can test their site at http://test.home.web.uoguelph.ca/~jsmith. Since this is the actual server home.web will be migrated to, a successful test demonstrates the migration will not affect your website.
If there are problems with your website on the test server, please contact CCS for support resolving the issue. If the problem requires recoding of the website, CCS will not be able to recode the website, but we will provide as much help as we can advising on options and working with clients to resolve issues on the new home.web server.
