Upcoming Changes to CCS Central File Service (CFS)
In November 2009, a survey was conducted by CCS with the IT admins currently supporting CFS for their departments. As a result of this information, and of the CCS Storage initiative, important changes are being planned for the CFS service. This project page outlines changes that are occuring in the short-term and how they may affect your department.
Migration of CFS to new storage platform
UPDATE - Migrations of all shared and home directory storage to the new storage platform 'north' have been completed as of March 25, 2010.
CFS Home directories and departmental shared storage will be moving to a new storage platform, with the primary benefits being an increase in available storage and an anticipated increase in performance. Migrations will be staggered, and are set to begin at the start of March and will be completed by month end. Organizational units that depend on the CFS service have been contacted individually about the impact to their departments. If you have not received such communication but feel you should have, please contact the CCS Help Centre at 58888help@uoguelph.ca.
Staff and faculty CFS Home Directories will move from mirrors.cfs.uoguelph.ca to north.cfs.uoguelph.ca at the same time their departmental Shared Storage is moved. Users not part of CFS client organizational units but who are using their CFS Home Directory (for example, by a manually mapped drive) will need to repoint such access to north.cfs.uoguelph.ca after their organizational unit has been moved. The migration schedule is as follows: CCS (February), CFS client organizational units scheduled during Tuesday andThursday maintenance windows throughout March, and all remaining CFS shared and home directories (including students) moved on March 26.
These organizational units have moved to the new platform:
- CCS [Feb 23]
- OVC [March 9]
- Human Resources, Financial Services, Office of Research [March 11]
- Alumni Affairs & Development, College of Arts (+ Other Teaching Units), College of Biological Science, College of Social & Applied Human Sciences, College of Management and Economics, College of Physical & Engineering Science, Executive Offices, Library, Student Housing Services [March 16]
- Athletics, Child Care & Learning Centre, Other Academic Support, Student Affairs, Student Health, Real Estate Management (not in use - Office of the Registrar, Physical Resources, University Centre, University General Expense) [March 18]
- OAC, (not in use - CDN Network of Toxicology Ctr, Hospitality Services, MacDonald Stewart Arts Centre, Parking Administration, Radio Gryphon, Security Services, Teaching Support Services, Tri University - Consortium) [March 23]
- Students, (not in use - miscellaneous or 'unclassified' departments) [March 25]
Service Enhancement - Increase in CFS Shared Storage
The amount of storage available to organizational units as a shared departmental resource will significantly increase during the migrations. Current CFS client departments will be communicated directly about this change for their organizational unit.
Opportunity to Lease Extended Storage
Organizational units will now have the opportunity to increase their baseline CFS shared storage by leasing space from CCS. Contact 58888help@uoguelph.ca for more information.
My Portico Briefcase
While migrations are occurring during March, an additional link on the My Portico Briefcase will appear called "New Faculty/Staff Briefcase(north.cfs.uoguelph.ca)". This link is for those organizational units that have been migrated. Once the migrations have been completed, the Briefcase will display just two links ('Faculty/Staff Briefcase' and 'Students Briefcase'), as normal.
CFS sFTP service
After Thursday, March 11, the CFS sFTP service (sftp.cfs.uoguelph.ca) will be unavailable until all migrations have been completed on March 26.
