How to set up a new employee
First step is to request a new user ID for the new employee. Instuctions to do this can be found here. http://www.uoguelph.ca/ccs/my-accounts/central-login-account/faculty-staff
Request a new phone for the employee. If there is already a phone – you will need to request a change of name (caller ID) for the phone. You can find instructions to do this here. http://www.uoguelph.ca/ccs/internet-phones/phones
Request a refresh or set up of the computer hardware/mobile device for the new employee through the managed desktop team. Call x58005 or e-mail request to mits@uoguelph.ca
How to set up a student employee
Call Client Solutions x58005 or e-mail mits@uoguelph.ca with the student’s current user ID and request to have them granted access to the shared network drives and folders.
Have the student sync their password before logging on to a computer. This can be done through the change password utility on the CCS website as found HERE
How to order new Hardware for your department
The managed desktop service does not purchase hardware for your department, however we do offer custom hardware recommendations and quotes based on your needs to make your ordering process easier.
To request a quote or recommendation, send an e-mail to mits@uoguelph.ca and include a description of your computing needs.
After hardware is ordered and delivered, contact Managed Desktops to arrange for technician to do setup.
How to restore a file if it is accidentally deleted
If you have accidentally deleted a file from one of your network drives (personal or shared), you have the option of restoring that file from a previous saved copy of the drive. You can either do the restore yourself, or submit a request online for the restore.
To do the restore yourself, open My Computer and locate the drive that the file. Right Click on the drive and select Restore Previous Versions. Select a version from previous to deleting the file, and Double Click on it. From there, locate the file and then Copy it back to the current version.
If you have accidentally deleted a file from your My Documents or C: drive, there is still a chance you are able to restore it as well. From the Desktop locate the Recycle Bin Icon and double click on it. If the file is in the recycle bin, you can right click on the file and click restore.
How to restore an e-mail if it accidentally deleted
A restore request can be submitted through an online service located HERE
Please make sure to include
- What needs to be restored (inbox, other email folders, other files - please specify names)
- For other files, the server name and file path name(s) are required
- Destination for the restored files (or permission to overwrite existing files)
- When to restore from (last known “good” date/time - please be specific as possbile)
How to change password
Your Central login ID can changed one of two ways. Either by using the online utility found HERE or by calling the CCS Help Centre at x58005 and requesting a password reset.
