Outlook Express Settings for Gryph Mail

Server Settings

You will need the following server settings, and your central login ID and password to configure Outlook Express.

Server Information
  My incoming server is a IMAP server.
  Incoming mail (IMAP) ....... mail.uoguelph.ca
  Outgoing mail (SMTP) ....... smtp.mail.uoguelph.ca

Incoming Mail Server
  Email username ............. central login ID
  Password ................... central login password
  [ * ] Log on using clear text authentication

Outgoing Mail Server
  [ * ] My server requires authentication

Server Port Numbers
  Outgoing mail (SMTP) ....... 587
  [ * ] This server rquires a secure connection (SSL)
  Incoming mail (IMAP) ....... 993
  [ * ] This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

IMAP Properties
  [   ] Store special folders on IMAP server

Step by Step Instructions

Please follow the step-by-step directions below to configure Outlook Express for Gryph Mail.

  1. Start Outlook Express, and on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
    If the Internet Connection Wizard starts up automatically, skip ahead to step 4.
  2. Click Add, and then click Mail to open the Internet Connection Wizard.

  3. On the Your Name page of the wizard, type your name as you want it to appear to everyone who gets e-mail from you, and then click Next.
  4. On the Internet Explorer Address page, type your e-mail address, and then click Next.
  5. On the E-mail Server Names page, change the incoming mail server type to IMAP. Enter the server names as given at the beginning of the article:
        Incoming mail (IMAP) ....... mail.uoguelph.ca
        Outgoing mail (SMTP) ....... smtp.mail.uoguelph.ca

    Click Next.

  6. On the Internet Mail Logon page, type your account name and password.

  7. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  8. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  9. Select your Gryph Mail account and click Properties.
  10. Click the Servers tab.
  11. Check My server requires authentication.
  12. Click the Advanced tab.
  13. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port to 587.
    Check This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
  14. Change the Incoming mail (IMAP) port to 993.
    Check This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
  15. Click the IMAP tab.
  16. Clear the check box labeled Store special folders on IMAP server.
  17. Click OK.
  18. Click Close.

Verify Settings

To verify you have the correct Outlook Express settings for Gryph Mail:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  2. Select your Gryph Mail account and click Properties.
  3. Click the Servers tab and verify your settings are correct:
