Thunderbird Settings for Gryph Mail

Account Settings

You will need the following information, and your central login ID and password to configure Thunderbird.

Server Settings

  Server Type ............... IMAP Mail Server
  Server Name ............... mail.uoguelph.ca
  Port ...................... 143
  User Name ................. [central login ID]

  Security Settings
    Connection Security ..... STARTTLS
    Authentication Method ... Normal password

Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings

  Server Name ............... smtp.mail.uoguelph.ca
  Port ...................... 587
  User Name ................. [central login ID]
  Authentication method ..... Normal password
  Connection security ....... STARTTLS

First Time Setup

Please follow the step-by-step directions below to configure Thunderbird for Gryph mail:

  1. Install Thunderbird (if you haven't already)
  2. Launch Thunderbird.
  3. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
  4. Select Add Mail Account... from the Account Actions drop-down on the left.
  5. Enter your name, email address, and central login password in the Automatic Account Configuration dialog. Click Continue
  6. Thunderbird will automatically detect the correct settings for Gryph mail.
  7. Click Create Account

Thunderbird is now configured to access Gryph Mail. You may also want to learn about setting up your directory or how subscribe to your folders.

Verify Settings

To verify or change settings for an existing account:

  1. Launch Thunderbird.
  2. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings.... The Account Settings window opens.
  3. Click on your Gryph Mail account and verify the correct outgoing server is selected:
