Validation Checks
Once your logon with NAC Agent has succeeded, the NAC system will perform a scan of your system to determine if vulnerabilities exist that require action. In order to gain full access to the network, your Windows computer must meet the following requirements:
- Windows Automatic Updates enabled and all Windows critical updates have been installed (mandatory)
- Compatible anti-virus software installed (mandatory)
- Compatible anti-virus software updated to the vendor's latest virus definition package (optional)
If your computer does not meet any of the above requirements, you should see following dialog box:

For the next 60 minutes, you will have temporary network access so that you may update your computer to meet the security requirements.
If you click Show Details, the Cisco NAC Agent displays a list of the requirements you must resolve before Cisco NAC Appliance grants you full network access.
If you click Repair, you will be provided with instructions on fixing/patching your computer.
Windows Critical Updates Check (Mandatory)
If your computer lacks critical windows security updates, you should see following dialog box:
Click Update to download and install the missing Windows updates.
Once the missing updates are installed, click "Restart" or "Close" (depends on the updates being installed)in the "Download and Install Updates" dialog to continue.
It is recommended to set the Windows update service to “Automatically download and notify me for install”. With this setting you will be notified to install the security.
Anti-Virus Software Check (Mandatory)
If your computer is not installed with any of the compatible anti-virus software, you should see following dialog box:

You must have a compatible anti-virus software product installed before gaining full access to the network.
McAfee anti-virus software is available at no charge to University of Gue
lph students, faculty and staff. Click Go To Link and follow the instructions to download McAfee anti-virus software from the CCS Software Distribution site.
Anti-Virus Definitions Check (Optional)
If your anti-virus software definitions are not up to date, you should see following dialog box:
You must update your anti-virus software definition files by clicking Update, or by manually updating through your anti-virus software.
Successfully Logged In To The Network
Once your computer meets all security requirements, you will see the following dialog box and will have full access to the network.

Temporary Network Access
If your computer does not meet the current security requirements, you will be provided with instructions on how to update your computer. You will be granted temporary access to the network in order to download any necessary software or updates. Specifically, you will have access to:
- Computing and Communication Services (CCS) Website
- CCS Software Distribution
- Microsoft Windows Update
- Anit-virus software download and update (see compatible anti-virus software list)
But you will not be able to:
- play online games
- use instant messaging or chat software
- use file sharing programs
- use any non-web based email client, e.g. Outlook Express, Eudora
