Data Analysis
Statistical Analysis
Data Analysis support services offered by the Academic Support cluster of CCS include: support of the primary statistical software packages available through the CCS software distribution site, troubleshooting new installations of statistical software, one-on-one consultations, and group workshops.
Academic Support contributes to the Data Resource Centre's help line (Ext. 56417) and email to assist individuals from the University of Guelph community with their statistical computing needs. If an individual’s concerns cannot be addressed on the phone or via email, a consultation appointment may be suggested. One-on-one consultations deal primarily with initial data entry, use of the statistical package and analysis output interpretation.
Introductory workshops for SAS, SPSS and MATLAB are offered through the CCS graduate workshop series. HR workshops are also available by the request of the professor for in-class sessions.
GIS Analysis
CCS and McLaughlin Library offer a GIS Service based out of the Data Resource Centre in the basement of the Library. The GIS Service includes access to and support for ESRI GIS software, GIS data analysis support, and a growing geospatial data collection.
U of G has a site license for ESRI GIS software, which allows faculty and staff to install and use ESRI software on their own computers or in on-campus teaching labs. The software is available from the CCS software distribution site for a small fee. This site license also allows the U of G community free access to online courses at ESRI Virtual Campus.
CCS offers instruction on the basic use of the ESRI software to faculty, staff and graduate students through the Human Resources workshop series and the CCS graduate student workshop series. These include 3 hour workshops in basic and intermediate GIS procedures and analysis. CCS offers support to faculty in using GIS in the classroom and can provide in-class workshops to undergraduate courses that will be using GIS. The GIS Service provides one-on-one assistance with GIS procedures and analysis using ArcView 3.3, ArcGIS 8.x and ArcGIS 9.0 by appointment through the Data Resource Centre.
The GIS data librarians also provide one on one support to locate and use data for research or teaching by appointment.
