Data Resource Centre

CCS and the McLaughlin Library offer a joint data service in the Data Resource Centre (DRC), located on the Lower Level of the Library. Statistics Canada surveys, Inter-University Consortium Political and Social Research (ICPSR) data, United Nations data along with a number of other data sources are made available to members of the University of Guelph, University of Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier University.

Data is easily accessible on the Tri-University Data Resources(TDR) website and enables members of the Tri-University community to download and manipulate data interactively. Some data is restricted for U of G in-house use only, and is available on a pool of computers outside the DRC and requires a login.

GIS

GIS Service based out of the DRC is also available, which includes access to and support for ESRI GIS software, GIS data analysis support, and a growing geospatial data collection.

Workshops and in-class sessions demonstrating the use of the data resources are also available through the HR training program, the CCS graduate workshops and by request of the professor to undergraduates through in-class sessions. For more information on how to access these services and resources, please visit the GIS website

U of G has a site license for ESRI GIS software, which allows faculty and staff to install and use ESRI software on their own computers or in on-campus teaching labs. The software is available from the software distribution site for a small fee. This site license also allows the U of G community free access to online courses at ESRI Virtual Campus.

The Library maintains a growing geospatial data collection. A list of the current collection is available from the Library GIS pages.

Data Services

Services offered in the DRC include data reference and support in data manipulation and further data analysis. Walk-in research help is available at the  Research Help Desk on the Lower Level in the Library. Appointments are recommended for in-depth data questions, data manipulation and data analysis questions.
