Getting Started

This guide will provide step-by-step instructions for hosting an Elluminate meeting and presenting a Powerpoint. For more detailed instructions on specific program features see the Elluminate How To.

Elluminate is a web-hosted video conferencing program. It has a whiteboard and slideshow capabilities with an unpaid maximum capacity of three simultaneous users in a meeting.

Things to note about Elluminate's Terms of Use:

  • Elluminate has the right to edit, reproduce, and distribute "User Materials".
  • Elluminate may actively monitor your internet activity.

CCS Limited Support Statement: Though we do provide you with a tutorial for its use, Elluminate is not formally supported by the CCS.

What you will need

  • Webcam
  • Microphone
  • Headphones (highly recommended)
  • Internet connection

Step 1: Getting Registered

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to “elluminate.com”.
  2. Click on the blue “Three for free conferencing” button on the right side of the middle of the page.
  3. Fill out your information as prompted on the registration page.
  4. Once registered, you may invite two people to your ‘vRoom’ by typing in their e-mail addresses in the field provided or, if they are already registered with Elluminate’s network, their username.
  5. Click “Send Invitation”.
  6. You may now start up your ‘vRoom’ by clicking on the “Launch my vRoom” button. Some web browsers may require you to allow the program.

Step 2: Setting Up the Meeting

  1. To initiate a video feed, make sure that video support is enabled by clicking on the image of the webcam located near the centre of the toolbar at the top of the Elluminate conference window.
  2. If video is enabled, there will be two webcam graphics now. To begin your video feed, click on the webcam graphic with the eyeball in the bottom right corner. This will open the video window.
  3. Click on “Transmit” to begin live video feed from your webcam.
  4. Click on the graphic of the microphone in the bottom left corner of the Elluminate window or hit Ctrl+F2 to initiate audio.

Step 3: Setting Up Your Presentation

  1. To share a Powerpoint, click on the file folder icon located at the far left of the middle of the whiteboard section.
  2. Locate the file you wish to share (‘.ppt’ and ‘.pptx’, or ‘.wbd’) and click ”open”.
  3. Elluminate will then take a few moments to convert your presentation into slides for the whiteboard.
  4. You may then navigate your slides using the arrow keys or the drop down menu at the top of the whiteboard.
  5. You may also mark your presentation using the various whiteboard tools located to the left of the whiteboard.
  6. You may now begin your presentation.
