Data Resource Centre - Key in Research Resources
Undergraduate and graduate students discover what the DRC has to offer.
The Data Resource Centre was quite pleased with the turnout they received at their Open House on Wednesday, September 28th. The event was held to familiarize students with services offered by the DRC while making them feel comfortable with the space provided. Representatives talked with students about individual consultations as well as workshops for topics including SPSS, SAS, ArcGIS, Google Earth and LimeSurvey.
The DRC was bustling with both new and returning students throughout the day. Bill Trenouth, an engineering graduate student and a DRC regular, was working with a representative on a class assignment. When asked how he uses the DRC, Bill responded, “I mainly use GIS software to work with elevation models, land use, soiled maps and aerial photography.” Although Bill has never attended a DRC workshop, he receives one-on-one help from representatives on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.
As a supplier of numerical and geospatial data, The Data Resource Centre has been a great addition to the University. The Library and CCS have collaborated to use the skills and efforts of combined staff and resources to remain innovative and responsive to campus needs.
