Recap: Spring IT Day 2012

Spring IT Day brings together IT specialists from across campus to discuss IT trends, issues and opportunities to share knowledge. Hosted by the Information Technology Special Interest Group (ITSIG), this annual event was held on May 3 and was attended by approximately 60 ITSIG and CCS members, including those who subscribed to the presentations via online streaming.

Hundreds of High School Students To Compete in Science Olympics

On May 10, 2012, 780 high school students from 25 different Ontario high schools will gather to compete in the fourth annual Guelph Science Olympics. The event is intended to increase students’ interest in math, science, and technology and approximately 160 faculty, staff, and students volunteer to help run this event. Let the games begin!

Start the holiday season right by giving the gift of McAfee.

Faculty, staff and students at the University of Guelph share the opportunity to receive free computer programs including McAfee VirusScan. McAfee is a complete anti-virus solution for personal computers that will guard against current viruses as well as new viruses due to its auto-update feature. McAfee is available to all registered students, staff and faculty at no cost. You are free to get a copy of McAfee VirusScan from the CCS software distribution site or go to the IT Help Desk with a blank writable CD if you don't have high speed internet access. Due to constant phishing attempts, it is imperative to protect your software from ever evolving viruses and external threats.

Along with McAfee VirusScan, CCS makes a variety of site-licensed software available for no-cost or at a reduced rate via the software distribution site. Although many of the applications are only available to staff and faculty, CCS offers a number of programs to students as well including McAfee VirusScan, SPSS, SAS and Microsoft XP and Office.

Please note that CCS is migrating to a new software distribution site over the semester. New products that are acquired from December will only be available at the new site. The new site will offer programs students can purchase including Windows 7, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and more. Take advantage of the services CCS offers and purchase programs at little or no cost today!
