IT Decision Framework
Last Updated: Nov.6/09 DDB
This area is intended to provide current information and implementation updates on the University's IT Decision Framework, a "federated" model of governance which was formally adopted by the University in 2007. Click here to view the major objectives of the Framework, and here to view the intended scope of the IT governance process.
A one page reference-card version of the IT Decision Framework is available here.
A unit within the Office of the CIO, the IT Project Management Office is responsible for implementing and coordinating the Decision Framework. A key deliverable of the PMO in support of the Decision Framework is building on-line Repositories to enable informed decision-making, make information sharing possible, and enable progress regarding IT portfolio management.
UofG's IT Decision Framework is based on a federal model of decision making comprising several committees and both individual and group accountability. This site will contain information on the committees which contribute to the process.
One of the early priorities identified in the Engagement Strategy document (see below) is assessing the current "maturity" of our IT governance processes, using the well-known Capability Maturity Model (CMM).
Best practice guidance on IT Governance from the IT Governance Institute (ITGI), using the five-level CMM, is provided here.
Formalized mechanisms (i.e. "processes") are being developed to enable the Decision Framework, allowing information to be shared in a consistent manner, and standardizing on the work flows associated with enterprise IT initiatives.
