As the Director , IT Portfolio Management & Systems Assurance, my responsibilities include overseeing the IT security function and managing the University's IT Decision Framework, the approved governance process for delivering oversight of the IT environment, and enhancing the effectiveness of IT utilization across our campuses.

The mission of the IT PMO is "enabling information intelligence" and a priority is introducing the process of portfolio management to the University. Portfolio management is a means to help organizations focus not only on "doing work right" but more importantly on "doing the right work".

A key enabler for both the IT Decision Framework and the process of portfolio management is making visible repositories (i.e. on-line inventories) which contain the portfolios to be managed. The PMO will sponsor and coordinate these repositories which will contain IT Assets (information on enterprise-class application systems and critical 'under-pinning' infrastructure services), IT Projects (both pending and in-progress), and IT Resources (people and funding).

As part of the Office of the CIO, our unit also has responsibility for coordinating the development of IT policies and overseeing a holistic approach to enterprise systems assurance (i.e. risk management, compliance, and IT security).

Here is a May/07 introduction Portfolio Management Office Overview.
