Risking the Void - the Work of Cameron Porteous

Cameron Porteous is Canada's premiere theatre designers. "Risking the Void" is an exhibition of his work that has recently been touring southern Ontario (initially at the Pumphouse at Niagara-on-the-Lake, then the Design Exchange in Toronto, and now at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre in Guelph until April 2010).

Porteous WebsitePorteous WebsitePat Flood and Sean Breaugh curated the exhibit with material sourced from the L. W. Conolly Theatre Archives at the Univeristy of Guelph Library and from the priviate collections of Porteous and others. A partnership of Theatre Museum Canada and the University of Guelph, this exhibition honours not only the contributions of Porteous but the countless other artists who contribute to theatre as a vibrant, collaborative experience.

While nothing compares to the installation itself, the website that accompanies the exhibt provides a glimpse into the creative world of Porteous.

Visual-Literacy.org

Visual-Literacy.org. This is very cool.

"This e-learning site focuses on a critical, but often neglected skill for business, communication, and engineering students, namely visual literacy, or the ability to evaluate, apply, or create conceptual visual representations. After this tutorial, students should be able to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of visual representations, to improve their shortcomings, to use them to create and communicate knowledge, or to devise new ways of representing insights."

Lots of good things on this site. Especially interesting (and quite amazing) is the Periodic Table of Visualization Methods. Mouseover the elements to see an example of each method.
