Both humans and rats avoid foods that made them sick

If you’ve ever felt sick after eating a new type of food, you’ll probably never eat that food again. “Taste aversion learning is probably the most profound learning of any kind,” says Linda Parker, psychology professor and Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Neuroscience.

NASA astronaut Mike Good and Bob McDonald, host of CBC Radio’s Quirks & Quarks, will speak at the launch of the first space-themed open house at the University of Guelph. “Bringing Space Down to Earth” will take place June 2.

The family-friendly event will showcase “out-of-this-world” research in various disciplines across campus, said organizer Leah Bent, a professor in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences.

She has been investigating how men diagnosed with cancer obtain the support they require to help them handle the challenges of their illness.
