Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking applications to fill a tenure track faculty position in Ophthalmology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO) or be eligible for the ABVO certifying examination. Candidates must have demonstrated research capability. Preference will be given to individuals with an advanced degree.  The ideal candidate should have a strong background in clinical ophthalmology and outstanding teaching, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential.

The successful candidate will work with one other Diplomate of the ACVO to provide the clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction related to ophthalmology within the DVM curriculum. The successful candidate will have fifty to sixty percent effort dedicated to clinical teaching and service for patients in the OVC Health Sciences Centre including participation in out-of-hours emergency duty equitable with the other member of the section. Provision of clinical teaching to interns, and residents of other disciplines, along with training and mentoring of Ophthalmology residents and consultation with private practitioners is expected. The remaining effort is to be spent on scholarly activity including research and graduate student supervision as well as service contributions to the Department, College and University. Independent research or research of a collaborative nature is expected.

The Ophthalmology Service is equipped with a Moller Hi-R (Moller-Wedel) with a digital video camera operating microscope, Acrivet Retiport 32 electroretinogram, DioVet Iris Medical diode laser with indirect headset, NovaPulse LX-20SP CO2 laser and a Bausch and Lomb Millenium microsurgical system. Access to a 1.5 Tesla high-field MRI, GE BrightSpeed CT 16 slice, and ultrasound-philips iU22 is available onsite. The ophthalmology caseload at the OVC is primarily companion animals, equine patients, and avian and exotic pets. The Ophthalmology service provides primary patient care in the companion animal hospital and internal consultation services provide to large animal and exotic patients. The successful candidate will work with specialists in small and large animal medicine, small and large animal surgery, anesthesiology, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, neurology, nutrition, cardiology, avian and exotics medicine, oncology (medical, surgical and radiation) and pathology. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
