Position Description:


The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking applications to fill a tenure track faculty position in Cardiology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and must be either a Diplomate of the American or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology), or eligible for the certification examination.  Candidates must have demonstrated research capability and possession of an advanced graduate degree is desirable.  The ideal candidate should have a strong background in clinical cardiology and outstanding teaching, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential. 


The successful candidate will work with one other cardiologist to provide didactic and clinical instruction in Cardiology and related disciplines to DVM students, interns, residents and graduate students. Approximately 50 to 65% effort will be dedicated to clinical teaching and service activities in the OVC Health Sciences Center, which includes providing clinical cardiology services for companion, exotic and clinical training and supervision of 4th year DVM students, Cardiology residents, and graduate students, interns and residents and graduate students in other disciplines.  The successful candidate will participate in out-of-hours emergency duty equitable with other members of the section. The remaining time is to be spent on scholarly activity, didactic and laboratory teaching of DVM and graduate students, and research.  Independent research or research of a collaborative nature is expected. Numerous opportunities for the latter exist with a strong University of Guelph cardiovascular research group involving the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Integrative Biology, and Human Health and Nutritional Sciences (see http:/www.uoguelph.ca/CardiovascularResearch/index.html)

The OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) offers state of the art diagnostic equipment including but not limited to a GE Vivid 7 echocardiography unit with 3D capability, transesophageal echocardiography, catheterization lab with C-arm fluoroscopy, digital hemodynamic and electrophysiologic data acquisition system, in-house digital Holter analysis system, pacemaker programmer, 1.5 Tesla high field General Electric MRI, CT, digital radiology, PACS system, scintigraphy, videoendoscopy, pulmonary ventilatory support, and a 24/7 Intensive Care Unit.  The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
