Position Title / Rank:

Associate Dean, Clinical Program

Ontario Veterinary College

Review of applications after October 1, 2013

Position Description:

Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Associate Dean, Clinical Program at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.

As Associate Dean, Clinical Program, you will lead and manage the OVC Clinical Program, including the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) and its constituent units such as the Large Animal Hospital, the Ruminant, Swine and Poultry Health Management Services, the Equine Sports Medicine and Reproduction Centre, the Hill’s Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre, the Mona Campbell Centre for Animal Cancer, the Small Animal Clinic and other units as they may be developed.  Within a positive, collaborative and forward-looking environment, you will supervise, mentor and encourage the Clinic Heads, Veterinarians and Management Team of the OVC HSC and be responsible for the delivery of high quality client experience and patient care by all of the clinicians and staff working in the HSC.

The Clinical Program at the Ontario Veterinary College serves as a “learning laboratory” for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students and post-DVM students.  For student veterinarians, it is the cornerstone of their program, providing the environment and opportunity to assimilate, apply and reinforce the knowledge and skills learned during all phases of the program.  The Clinical Program also facilitates vitally important clinical research and provides exceptional veterinary healthcare services to the animal owning public in Ontario and beyond.

Under your leadership and with the support of the OVC administration, faculty, staff and students, the Clinical Program will contribute to and benefit from the overall OVC Integrated Plan. The successful candidate will align with the Associate Dean, Academic to ensure that learning outcomes are achieved within the Clinical Program; with the Associate Dean, Students, to optimize the student experience within the Clinical Program, and with the Associate Dean, Research and Innovation to facilitate the Clinical Trials Program.

As the external spokesperson for the OVC HSC, you will establish and strengthen relationships with the university, referring veterinarians and animal owners.  In addition, you will develop strong relationships with industry and government entities and cultivate private support for the OVC Clinical Program through fundraising activities and partnerships.

You will have experience leading a complex, multi-faceted organization.  Leadership success within an academic setting, a healthcare environment and/or a unionized workplace would be assets, as would an advanced degree related to management.  A DVM, or equivalent, degree is preferred and advanced clinical training would be an asset.

Applications should include a curriculum vita, a cover letter describing your interest in the position, and your vision for the clinical program at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.     Please include the names and contact information for three referees. The search committee will review applications after October 1, 2013.

Applications and nominations should be sent by either by email to:
