Position Description:

The Opportunity 
The University of Guelph McLaughlin Library invites applications for two Learning & Curriculum Support Librarians. As part of the Learning & Curriculum Support (L&CS) Team, and reporting to the Manager, Information Literacy, the Learning & Curriculum Support Librarians will contribute to information literacy programs and services at the University of Guelph Library.

About the team
The Learning & Curriculum Support team advances the educational enterprise of the University and the mandate of the Library by enhancing learning and teaching through the provision of expertise, leadership, services, and resources that support academic objectives and foster lifelong learning. The Information Literacy team provides support to students who seek to enhance their information research skills and practices and develop a critical approach to the consumption and production of information in an academic context and beyond. The team also supports faculty who seek to integrate the development of these skills and practices into the curriculum.

Position description 
Working in a collaborative, team-based environment, and in keeping with the commitment of the Information Literacy team to provide a range of curriculum-integrated, extra-curricular, blended, and critical approaches to information literacy for both students and faculty, the Librarians will design, teach, and assess information literacy programs and services; create and manage educational resources for information literacy; provide research help services and consultations; and conduct outreach to faculty and students—in both face-to-face and online environments. The Librarians will maintain a current awareness of key developments in information literacy, teaching and learning, educational technologies, academic libraries, and higher education, and apply this in a critical fashion in practice. Additional responsibility for other projects or initiatives to advance and support the work of the Information Literacy / L&CS teams and the Library more broadly may also be assigned.

Qualifications 
Required

  • An ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree or equivalent
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and collegial environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Experience facilitating instruction to groups in an academic environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information resources and tools used in academic libraries, such as bibliographic databases, discovery layers, search engines, citation management tools, etc.
  • Demonstrated facility in the design, creation, and use of educational technologies and media production tools such as online tutorials, screencasts, widgets, cloud-based productivity tools, and learning management systems

Preferred

  • Demonstrated aptitude for thinking creatively and critically about information literacy programs and services 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for thinking critically about best practices in programs and services for academic libraries
  • Demonstrated aptitude for thinking critically about trends in higher education
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience delivering information literacy instruction in an academic library setting
  • Formal training or education in the design, delivery, and assessment of teaching and learning and/or information literacy programs and services
  • Formal training or education in the design and development of online educational resources or learning objects, such as online tutorials, screencasts, widgets
  • Education and/or work experience in engineering, science, or social science

Librarians work within the terms and conditions of employment as governed by the “Collective Agreement between the University of Guelph and the University of Guelph Faculty Association.” All Librarians are expected to engage in professional practice; scholarship, which includes research, study, professional development and scholarly and creative activities; and, University service and academic or professional service.
