Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking applications to fill a tenure track faculty position in Anesthesia at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario and be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) or have approved credentials for ACVAA or ECVAA certification. Candidates must have demonstrated research capability and previous graduate and undergraduate teaching experience is desirable. Preference will be given to individuals with an advanced degree.  The ideal candidate should have experience managing a diverse heavy caseload in a tertiary case referral hospital and outstanding teaching, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential.  
The successful candidate will work with two other faculty members in the Anesthesia section to provide clinical and didactic instruction in anesthesia and analgesia. The successful candidate will have a primary emphasis on teaching and service for patients in the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) including participation in out-of-hours emergency duty equitable with the other member of the section. Provision of clinical teaching to fourth year DVM students, interns, and residents of other disciplines, along with training and mentoring of anesthesia graduate students is expected. The remaining effort is to be spent on scholarly activity including research and graduate student supervision. Independent research or research of a collaborative nature is expected.

The successful candidate will work closely with a team of 10 dedicated veterinary anesthesia technicians to provide support to all medical and surgical services of large and small animals in the Health Sciences Centre including: radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging (including CT and MR), neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology, and avian and exotics. A new anesthesia, surgery and endoscopy suite is currently under construction with completion expected in the spring of 2018. The OVC HSC offers high quality diagnostic and monitoring equipment and a 24/7 fully staffed and equipped Intensive Care Unit. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
