The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development at the University of Guelph invites applications for several full-time tenure-track positions in Landscape Architecture. The appointment(s) will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph has an established international reputation offering two of Canada’s leading and enduring programs. For more than 50 years, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and the Master of Landscape Architecture have produced landscape architects who practice around the world and participate in the full spectrum of the discipline.

At a minimum, we require colleagues who will teach the discipline and practice of design to Landscape Architecture students through the development of knowledge, skills and values in a variety of applications. We are looking for people in the areas of, but not limited to landscape architecture history; design theory; biophysical, social, cultural and geo-spatial analysis; green infrastructure; ecological design; research methods; construction; and/or manual and digital technologies for design communication.

You will be expected to contribute to our professional Bachelor and Master of Landscape Architecture programs in the capacity of teaching, research and service and to participate in the supervision of Master’s students and with potential for PhD students.

Our mission in Landscape Architecture is to excel at comprehensive and evidence-based education, innovation, and scholarship in the art and science of landscape architecture and to prepare graduates to lead professional practice into the future. We invite applications from qualified candidates who can work within our interdisciplinary environment and who can contribute to teaching across the School’s programs. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the development and delivery of Landscape Architecture instruction in lecture and studio courses, seminars, and fieldwork, and in the supervision of Master’s and PhD students.

Applicants must have a degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program and a PhD in Landscape Architecture or relevant discipline (the Ph.D. degree must be completed or nearing completion at the time of the appointment). Candidates with a Masters degree and a minimum of 6 years of relevant professional practice may be considered. Depending on these qualifications, the successful applicant should have a strong record of significant professional practice and/or research productivity and, preferably, previous teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants should have membership in the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects or be eligible for and interested in attaining membership.
