Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Avian and Exotic Medicine at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This search is only open to internal members of the University of Guelph.

Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and be a Diplomate of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (ACZM) or the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM), or American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Avian, or Avian and Small Mammal). Candidates must have demonstrated research capability and previous graduate and undergraduate teaching experience. Preference will be given to individuals with an advanced graduate degree. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in clinical medicine with avian and exotic species plus outstanding teaching, communication, and client service skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential.

The successful candidate will have the majority of their effort dedicated to maintaining and strengthening a clinical teaching service for patients in the OVC Health Sciences Centre including participation in out-of-hours emergency duty. Provision of clinical teaching to fourth year DVM students, interns, and residents of other disciplines, along with training and mentoring of graduate students is expected. The remaining effort is to be spent on scholarly activity including research and graduate student supervision. Independent research or research of a collaborative nature is expected.
