Position Title / Rank: Assistant Professor in International Development Studies, Tenure Track (2 positions)

Position Description:

The International Development Studies (IDS) Program, within the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences (CSAHS), invites applications for two tenure-track appointments in the area of International Development. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and is subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidates will be appointed in one of the Departments of Geography, Political Science or Sociology and Anthropology but affiliated with the International Development Studies program for the majority of their time. They will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and undertake administrative responsibilities in the IDS program and their home department. They are expected to establish and maintain a program of research of an international standard related to international development.

For position one, candidates must have a record of excellence in teaching and research related to poverty and inequality, ideally including an economic background in both of these. For position two, candidates must have a record of excellence in teaching and research related to social justice, human rights and development, ideally including legal and institutional aspects of these.

Qualifications for the position include a PhD in a discipline relevant to one of the three departments to which the successful candidates will be appointed. Ideally, candidates will have expertise and experience in the application of quantitative research methods, although candidates that employ qualitative approaches to their research will be considered.

Preference will be given to candidates who have taught courses on international development at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will also be given to candidates who have expertise related to experiential learning and the application of engaged teaching methods.

The successful candidate must have strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively interact with faculty from multiple disciplines and to be able to develop networks across broad communities of expertise.
