Position Description:

The Department of Food Science at the University of Guelph invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in food risk analysis at the Associate Professor rank. The position is sponsored by the Leung Family Foundation and will be known as the Leung Family Professorship in Food Safety.  Research interests may include any area of food risk analysis with preferred foci on methodologies and strategies for risk assessment and mitigation of food borne microbial (including viruses) hazards.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Risk Analysis, Microbiology or related discipline.  He/she will have substantial research experience, demonstrated evidence of research capacity, strong record of teaching, excellent communication skills, and recognized ability to support industry stakeholders. 

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, collaborative research program.  A strong peer-reviewed publication record is required. The successful candidate will also show success in pursuing research funding, both individually and collaboratively.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as advise graduate students.  He/she will have proven experience providing effective instruction.

The successful candidate will also be expected to provide food safety expertise to the food industry, in particular, through the Guelph Food Innovation Centre.  As such, the successful candidate must have proven communication skills and demonstrate comprehensive understanding of risk analysis.

Food Science has a strong reputation as a center of excellence and currently has 16 tenured faculty members, several adjunct faculty, 100 graduate students, 160 undergraduate students, 7 permanent support staff and several contractual support staff (www.uoguelph.ca/foodscience/).   As part of the renowned Ontario Agricultural College (https://www.uoguelph.ca/oac/), Food Science has a long history of achievements in serving the agriculture and food industries within Ontario and beyond.

The University of Guelph (http://www.uoguelph.ca) is a top-ranked comprehensive university in Canada with an enrolment of about 23,000 students. It is located in Guelph, Ontario (population of approximately 120,000) and is a one-hour drive west of Toronto, Ontario.
