The Opportunity:

The University of Guelph Library invites applications for a Learning & Curriculum Support (L&CS) Librarian. This is a twelve-month appointment.

The Team:

The L&CS team advances the educational enterprise of the University and the Library by providing expertise, leadership, services, and resources to support academic objectives and lifelong learning. The Information Literacy team supports students seeking to enhance their research skills and practices and develop a critical approach to the consumption and production of information in academic contexts and beyond. The team also supports faculty seeking to integrate these skills and practices into the curriculum.

Position Description:

As a part of the L&CS team, and reporting to the Manager, Information Literacy, the L&CS Librarian supports information literacy programs and services. Working in a collaborative, team-based environment, and in keeping with the commitment of the Information Literacy team to providing a range of curriculum-integrated, blended, and critical approaches to information literacy, the Librarian designs, teaches, and assesses information literacy programs and services, provides research help and consultations, and conducts outreach face-to-face and online. The Librarian maintains a current awareness of developments in information literacy, scholarly communication, digital media literacies, digital scholarship and pedagogy, academic libraries and higher education, and applies this in a critical fashion in practice. Responsibility for other projects or initiatives may also be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree or equivalent
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and collegial team-based organization
  • Self-directed and well organized with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Recent experience (in the last five years) designing and delivering information literacy instruction in a library setting
  • Experience providing reference service in a library setting
  • Broad knowledge of information sources and tools in academic libraries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent experience (in the last five years) designing and delivering information literacy instruction in an academic library
  • Experience providing reference service in an academic library
  • Demonstrated interest and facility in the use of educational technologies and digital media tools, such as learning management systems, cloud-based productivity tools, and video editing software
  • Knowledge of best practices and current trends in information literacy in higher education
  • Knowledge of best practices and current trends in academic libraries
  • Proven project management skills
  • Training or education in the design, delivery, and assessment of instruction and/or information literacy programs
  • Post-secondary education in business or science and/or experience providing liaison support to business or science programs in academic libraries
