Position Description:
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2018.
A PhD in Sociology, or a closely related interdisciplinary field, is required. The successful candidate’s work will broadly intersect with aspects of migration, along with diversity and/or work. Strength in gender and theory is also an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses which might include: SOC*1100: Introduction to Sociology, SOAN*2290: Identities and Cultural Diversity, SOC*2390: Class and Stratification, SOC*3310: Contemporary Theory, and SOAN*4260: Migration, Inequality, and Social Change.
The successful candidate will have a well-developed research program, with a peer-reviewed publication record, and demonstrable skills as an effective teacher. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to programs in Sociology and Anthropology including supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers undergraduate degrees in Sociology, Anthropology, and Crime and Criminal Justice Policy (in collaboration with Political Science). We offer MA and PhD degrees in Sociology, an MA in Anthropology, and an MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy. We are contributors to the International Development Studies programs. The Department and the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences support community engaged scholarship activities. Applicants must submit a 1 to 3-page cover letter that includes a statement of teaching and research interests, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier that includes a statement of teaching philosophy, 2 course outlines, recent course evaluations, and 1 or 2 recently published scholarly works.
