Position Description:
The Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Students and Academic. The Associate Dean is a key member of the OVC senior leadership team and is responsible for advancing the academic, professional and personal development of students in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, curricular innovation, quality assurance and integrity, and student recruitment and career readiness. Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and will be licensed, or eligible for licensure, in the Province of Ontario. They will also possess an advanced degree in a field relevant to the work of the Ontario Veterinary College, with preference given to candidates with a doctoral degree, specialty board certification, or a graduate degree in post-secondary education. Qualified candidates must be eligible to be appointed to a tenured faculty position at OVC at either the Associate Professor or Professor rank.
Leadership
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of andragogy, curriculum design, assessment, and learning outcomes. They will have strategic understanding of the current and future skills, knowledge, and attributes needed for success in the veterinary profession, and demonstrate an understanding of methodologies that provide a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment that promotes academic success and learner well-being. They will be responsible for overseeing the provision of programs and services that help all DVM students achieve their potential. They will also create and foster a supportive college environment that is inviting, accessible, and reflective of the diversity of our students.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional, dynamic, and innovative leader who embraces change. They will have strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with outstanding management and communication skills, as well as an ability to inspire faculty, staff and students. The Associate Dean will be expected to lead community engagement and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, both inside and outside the College.
Research and Teaching
The ideal candidate will be a successful researcher in a field related to the College’s programs and activities with a recognized and sustained research program. In addition, they will also be able to demonstrate in-depth experience as an educator, characterized by learning innovation, peer¬-reviewed contributions, and achievements in andragogy.
