Position Description:
Applications are sought from tenured faculty in the College of Arts for the position of Associate Dean (Academic). The position carries a distribution of effort of 80% service, 10% research, 10% teaching, with standard provision for transition leave. The initial appointment will be for five years and is renewable once. The preferred start date is July 1, 2018.
The primary role of the Associate Dean (Academic) is to provide strategic leadership for effective undergraduate programs and student support in the College of Arts. The Associate Dean (Academic) will provide college-level oversight of undergraduate specializations, coordinate and support undergraduate activities in the departments, contribute to the management of the degree programs supported by the College (BA, BAS), provide leadership for curriculum innovation, and promote and ensure academic integrity throughout the College. The Associate Dean (Academic) also is responsible for oversight of the BA counselling office which includes the BA and the BAS.
The Associate Dean (Academic) will take a lead role in matters related to internal and external liaison and student recruitment, lead the management of college undergraduate awards, represent the college on university committees related to undergraduate curriculum and task forces related to undergraduate education (e.g. Council of Associate Deans Academic, Coop Program Coordinating Committee), investigate cases of academic misconduct in undergraduate programs, and take up other duties as required.
Applicants must have significant experience in academic management, especially in the leadership of curriculum change, and be committed to advancing teaching and learning. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. The Associate Dean will be provided with administrative support and office space adjacent to the dean’s suite in the MacKinnon Extension.
