Position Description:

The Department of Biomedical Sciences, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), University of Guelph is seeking applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending on qualifications. This position will contribute to a cluster hire of one health researchers at the OVC, advancing interdisciplinary comparative research at the interface of animal and human health.

Applicants must have a PhD degree and must have a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate will have potential for developing a strong externally-funded comparative biomedical research program, as evidenced by a solid record of publication and obtaining peer-reviewed research funding in areas which could contribute to the department’s existing areas of strength. The successful candidate will also have potential to provide high quality instruction in the first year of the DVM curriculum (experience in teaching histology preferred) and in the undergraduate Bio-Medical Science or Neuroscience Major.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is responsible for delivering professional and specialist undergraduate education, and research training. In addition to courses in the DVM and BSc programs, the Department offers graduate course-based Masters, and thesis-based MSc and PhD programs in each of the departmental discipline fields. A large component of the research agenda within the Department of Biomedical Sciences is in Comparative Biomedical Research with expertise in Reproductive Biology and Development, Cardiovascular Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Cancer and Cell Biology, Stem cell and Regenerative Medicine and Neuroscience. Several faculty in the Department hold leadership roles in the Centre for Cardiovascular Investigations (CCVI) and Institute for Comparative Cancer Investigation (ICCI) and an emerging centre in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. There are also extensive opportunities for collaborative studies involving naturally occurring disease process in companion and production animals. The successful candidate will be expected to acquire sufficient funds to support an independent research program and the training of graduate students at the MSc and PhD level.
