Position Description:

The University of Guelph – Ridgetown Campus invites applications for a contractually-limited position of Assistant Veterinarian. The Ridgetown Campus is seeking an experienced veterinarian to support the campus’ mission to be a leader in applied teaching, research and training focused on agriculture, horticulture, veterinary technology and the environment.

The Assistant Veterinarian would play a significant role in the Veterinary Technology program at the Ridgetown Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of theoretical and practical courses to both on-campus and off-campus diploma students in the Veterinary Technology program, with special emphasis on clinical and laboratory techniques and subjects related to animal health and care. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the health and well-being of the large and small colony animals, including providing out of hours care. The Associate Diploma in Veterinary Technology program has approximately 120 registered students.

Candidates will possess a DVM qualification and will be licensed to practice in Ontario. The successful candidate will have at least three (3) years of clinical experience within the last five (5) years, as well as experience with a variety of large, small, and exotic species. In addition, the successful candidate will have proven oral and written communication skills, the ability to motivate and develop a positive working environment with staff and students, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Experience and participation in college level education is preferred, including knowledge of education principles, curriculum development, and academic counselling. Experience with administration and budgeting would also be desirable.

The Ridgetown Campus is part of the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) and has approximately 120 employees which includes 20 researchers and 20 research associates, plus 650 diploma students, and 20 Master’s and Ph.D. candidates. The campus offers 6 diploma streams and 2 certificate programs. The annual campus budget is $21 million with research representing over 40% of that amount coming from provincial and federal governments, private industry, and producer organizations.
