Position Description:
The School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in cybersecurity at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level. The expected start date is January 1, 2019. Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent at the time of appointment, in computer science or related field.

School of Computer Science
The School of Computer Science is currently comprised of 24 faculty, 8 staff, about 850 undergraduate and 50 MSc and PhD students. It is expected to grow significantly in the next few years. Two additional faculty members with expertise in cybersecurity will join the School in September.
Current Programs
The School offers two majors, Computer Science and Software Engineering, as well as a three-year General Program. The honours majors are available with a Co-operative Education option. The MSc in Computer Science emphasizes both academic and applied research, and the PhD in Computational Sciences produces interdisciplinary scholars who are capable of tackling emerging problems in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, etc.
New Masters
The School is currently developing a new course-based MSc in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics (expected launch date fall 2019). It will be unique with a core focus on threat intelligence, SIEM, intrusion prevention, malware analysis, computer forensics, and its attention to detail in the area of lab-supported learning. It will cover the most challenging and technical aspects of the cybersecurity field and deliver graduates with unique skill sets that are in high demand. The School has secured strategic partners, including Cisco Systems, IBM and McAfee. The building hosting the School is currently being completely renovated and will include a brand new physical lab that will serve as an academic version of a SOC.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate is expected to devote approximately equal time to research and to teaching, as well as some time to service. Note that they are not expected to satisfy all the criteria below, and expectations are commensurate with faculty level.
Research
The ideal candidate is an exceptional researcher in the field of cybersecurity, who has built an internationally recognized, sustained research program funded by tri-council agencies or equally prestigious funding agencies. They have an outstanding record of research, with recent research-based publications in top-tier venues. They have extensive supervision experience (graduate students, staff) on research-oriented projects. They will support the current MSc and PhD programs with graduate student supervision and world-class research in the field of cybersecurity.
Teaching
The ideal candidate is an exceptional teacher, and has a record of high-quality teaching based on formal teaching evaluations and teaching awards. They will teach up to 3 courses per year, at all levels. In particular, they should be able to teach senior undergraduate courses in some of the following areas: networking, mobile computing, cloud computing, parallel and distributed computing, computer organization and architecture, operating systems and systems programming. They will also assist with the development and deployment of the new course-based MSc in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, and they will later help maintain and support this program.
Service
The ideal candidate has extensive and recognized service experience. They will provide service to the School, College, University, and research community at large.
