Position Description:

The Department of Management (DoM), in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (SBE), at the University of Guelph invites applications for two contractually-limited positions (3 years) at the Assistant Professor level.

Applicants should have earned a doctorate in Management or related field. Preference will be given to applicants who have business experience, a track record of effective teaching Management/Leadership at the undergraduate, graduate and professional (MBA, MA Leadership) levels and practical business experience. We are particularly interested in a candidate whose research connects management theory with management practice and produces impact on both practice and the development of theory. We are respectful of different approaches and perspectives in meeting these objectives.

The first position will be teaching focused and the anticipated distribution of effort is expected to be: 80% teaching, 10% scholarship, 10% service. The successful candidate in the second position will seek to further distinguish DoM as an important source of relevant, applied research in Management, and will conduct extensive outreach activities to engage external contributors and disseminate knowledge to our business community. In recognition of the position's significant service responsibilities, the successful candidate will have an anticipated distribution of effort of 60% teaching, 10% scholarship, 30% service.

The Department of Management has 20 faculty members and responsibility for two majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program - Accounting, and Leadership and Organizational Management. The Department also offers an undergraduate leadership certificate, an MA in Management, and contributes to SBE’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management. Faculty members are committed to SBE’s vision of “being and developing leaders for a sustainable world” and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, entrepreneurship, financial management, business policy/strategy, human resource management, organizational behaviour, leadership, and corporate social responsibility.

The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. Formed in 2006, and renamed in 2019, the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics is the youngest college at the University of Guelph, but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 4,000 students currently enrolled.
