Position Description:

The Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in family relations and human development at the Assistant Professor level.

Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, participating in undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, and building a vigorous research program with an applied focus. Applicants who can show evidence of working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment are preferred.

At the time of the appointment (July 2019), applicants should have completed a PhD in education, child development, human development, psychology, social work, sociology or other family-related/human development-related field. The successful candidate should have a strong record of research and teaching, and a clearly articulated plan for an independent research program. Possible areas for a suitable research program include: early childhood studies, child development (emphasis on the early years), parent-child relations, parenting, family relations. Priority teaching needs in the department are in the Child, Youth and Family major and in quantitative research methods. Current registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or potential to be registered within one year of the appointment date, would be an asset.

The Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition is housed in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. It offers undergraduate majors in Adult Development (ADEV), Applied Human Nutrition (AHN), and Child, Youth and Family (CYF), as well as research-based MSc and PhD programs in the fields of Applied Human Nutrition and Family Relations and Human Development (FRHD). It also offers two accredited professional Masters programs: a Master of Applied Nutrition (MAN) program, and an MSc in Couple and Family Therapy. The successful candidate will teach largely within our CYF and ADEV undergraduate majors and within our FRHD graduate programs. More information about the Department can be found at the website.
