Engineering Systems & Computing (Artificial Intelligence)

The School of Engineering at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Engineering with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. All areas of AI will be considered, including subareas targeting specific applications such as robotics, healthcare, education, or the physical and social sciences. The successful candidate is expected to secure external funding sources, develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program and provide service to the University and the engineering profession.

To be considered for this position, applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and have earned a doctorate in computer engineering or a related field; have an outstanding research and publication record, and have teaching experience at the university level. Qualified applicants will be expected to teach core engineering, program specific computer engineering undergraduate courses and graduate courses related to the research area. Post-doctoral academic/industrial research experience is desired. Preference will be given to the candidate who will combine excellence in teaching with a demonstrated capacity to conduct novel, interdisciplinary research that will expand and complement our current research strengths. Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is a requirement of this position at the time of hiring.

Successful candidates who demonstrate excellence in research at the highest international level, and apply their research to foster economic growth and improve the lives of Canadians, may be nominated for Vector Institute Faculty Affiliate status.

The University of Guelph has well-established and accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Systems and Computing, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. At present the School is comprised of over 61 faculty members, 33 staff and technicians, 1,750 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students. In addition, the University of Guelph has recently launched the Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI) to advance multidisciplinary AI training and research, and its responsible application to foster economic growth and improve life.
