Position Description:

The Department of Management, in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (SBE) at the University of Guelph is seeking an outstanding faculty member who will become the named John F. Wood Chair in Entrepreneurship. This position will be housed in the Department of Management and will contribute to the culture and programming of the John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise.

The position responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses and developing courses in entrepreneurship and innovation. The successful applicant will carry out research that extends his or her existing strong publishing record in entrepreneurship. Responsibilities will also include assisting with the launch of academic programs in Entrepreneurship, supporting co-curricular seminars and workshops to inspire faculty and students in various aspects of entrepreneurship and innovation commercialization, mentoring students in curricular and co-curricular initiatives, and contributing to the academic responsibilities of the Wood Centre, the department, the college, and the university. The distribution of effort for this position is expected to be 40% teaching, 40% scholarship, and 20% service.

Applicants should have earned a doctorate in Entrepreneurship or a related field and demonstrated academic excellence. Candidates will have a sustained record of publishing in Entrepreneurship within high quality journals. Preference will be given to applicants who have a track record of effective teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research connects management theory with management practice and produces impact on both practice and the development of theory. We are respectful of different approaches and perspectives in meeting these objectives. We are looking for a scholar whose academic work in entrepreneurship and innovation has made an impact. The candidate should be a team player with a proven record of building relationships with faculty, students, administration and with our academic and professional communities.

The Department of Management has 20 faculty members and responsibility for two majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program - Accounting, and Leadership and Organization Management. The Department also offers an undergraduate leadership certificate and contributes to SBE’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management. Faculty members are committed to SBE’s vision of “being and developing leaders for a sustainable world” and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, entrepreneurship, financial management, business policy/strategy, human resource management, organizational behaviour, leadership, and corporate social responsibility.

The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. Formed in 2006, and renamed in 2019, the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics is the youngest college at the University of Guelph but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled. Our School provides a learning environment that encourages critical reflection, personal growth, and promotes traditional and emerging themes of management and economics. We offer a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate, and professional education.
