Position Description:

The Department of Psychology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate Professor level.

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair in the Department of Psychology. The appointment as Chair will be for five years, effective July 1, 2019, with the possibility of being renewed for a second term of up to five years.

Candidates must be tenured faculty members at the University of Guelph* and should have a substantial understanding of the Psychology department and the disciplinary sub-fields that comprise the teaching and research programs. The successful candidate will possess leadership and management capabilities that serve the needs of the department, college and university, as well as the ability to appreciate and provide balanced leadership across scholarly areas. A strong record of teaching, scholarship and service is also required. A record of successful service at college and university levels would be an asset.

In collaboration with departmental colleagues, the Chair will be expected to guide the future direction and positioning of the department. The Chair will also be expected to support individual members of the department through mentoring and facilitation; encourage collegiality, inclusive governance and a respectful work environment; foster values of fairness, and excellence; and maintain a sense of pride and community among all members (students, staff and faculty) of the department. The Chair will be expected to act as an advocate for the department, and facilitate and maintain relationships with other members of the University of Guelph and broader scholarly community. The Chair has overall responsibility that department practices and processes are formulated, promulgated and followed, that resources are properly allocated, and that college and university policies and procedures are followed.

*Note that appointment of an applicant from a department other than Psychology would be subject to provisions in Article 24.1 of the collective agreement, consideration of operational and budgetary considerations, and consent by the respective Dean(s) and Provost.

Applications must be submitted by 4:30pm, Friday, March 15, 2019, and include a 1) a cover letter; (2) a curriculum curriculum vitae and a brief (2-3 page) self-assessment of the skills and experience that applicants would bring to the position.
