Position Description:

The Department of Management (DoM), in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Lang) at the University of Guelph invites applications from outstanding candidates with a commitment to student engagement and transformative pedagogy, scholarship that is making a difference in the world, and community engagement, for two three-year contractually limited faculty positions in Management at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date for the appointments is January 1, 2020 or a mutually acceptable date in 2020. The distribution of effort for these positions is expected to be 70% teaching, 20% scholarship, and 10% service.

Applicants should have earned a doctorate in Management or related field, however those who are close to completion will also be considered. The candidate’s scholarly interests should be focused on some aspect of management broadly defined. For the first position, we are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and research interests are in the areas of human resources, organizational behavior, and/or leadership. For the second position, we are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and research interests are in the areas of project management, entrepreneurship, innovation/change management and/or data analysis.

Preference will be given to applicants who have a track record of effective teaching in Management at the post-secondary level and practical business experience. The candidate should be a team player with the ability to build relationships with faculty, students, and administration.

The Department of Management has 20 faculty members and responsibility for two majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program - Accounting and Management. The Department offers an MA in Management and an undergraduate leadership certificate. It contributes to Lang’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management. Faculty members are committed to Lang’s vision of “being and developing leaders for a sustainable world” and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, entrepreneurship, financial management, business policy/strategy, human resource management, organizational behaviour, leadership, and corporate social responsibility.

The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Guelph’s Business School). Formed in 2006, the Lang School is the youngest college at the University of Guelph but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled.
