Position Description:

The School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph is seeking a leading scholar to join its expanding sport management offerings as the Lang Chair in Sport Management.

The successful candidate will assist in the growth of sport management at Guelph. It is an exciting time with our newly launched International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership, attracting graduate students (PhD and MSc) working on advanced research in sport business, and our soon-to-be-launched Bachelor of Commerce Major and Minor in Sport and Event Management (Fall 2020).

The Chair will be a global leader in sport management education who holds a PhD in sport management or a related area. The ideal candidate will have an active research agenda with a high-quality record of publications, research funding (particularly tri-agency or equivalent), teaching excellence, and evidence of involvement with the sport industry. Knowledge of Canadian and international sport systems is an asset. Expertise in sport management is sought, with interest in candidates with expertise in sport finance, sport analytics, sport marketing, and/or event management. The distribution of effort for this position is expected to be: 20% teaching, 60% research, 20% service. It is anticipated that the candidate will commence their appointment in summer of 2020. The successful candidate must be qualified and experienced to join our faculty at either the associate or full professor rank.

The School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Guelph’s Business School). Formed in 2006, the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 4,000 students currently enrolled.
